IanG has recently blogged about Moore's law. And, of course, I agree with every word he says! Except...

He argues that people are actually interested in the corollary of Moore's law - greater usable performance on their machines. I think that there is another factor that comes into play.

When I bought a bunch of development workstations for my team, from Dell, 2 years ago, they cost me about $2200 each.

When I bought another batch this year, they cost me slightly under $1000 each. (Prices translated from her brittanic majesty's UK pounds sterling at current rates, so exchange rates don't come into play).

And those machines were marginally higher spec, too.

So, my price/performance has more than doubled...

This is just great.
